Robert Scott wrote this letter from Lexington December 20, 1812, to Lieutenant Colonel James Morrison concerning the departure of Morrison's wife to join him and equipment for Morrison's troops serving in the War of 1812. Morrison's address was given as Franklinton. Scott reported the equipment Morrison had ordered, including camp stools, tables, stoves, and tin ware, had met a considerable delay at Newport "for want of drivers" for the ox teams. Butter, candles, and whiskey were about to be shipped.

Biographical note: James Morrison, a native of Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, served as an officer during the Revolutionary War and subsequently as a sheriff of Cumberland County prior to coming to Lexington, Kentucky in 1792. Having entered into business here as a merchant, he was appointed land commissioner by Isaac Shelby, and in 1797 represented Fayette County in the Kentucky legislature.
